Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale says he is surprised by how quickly he has established himself as a regular starter at the Emirates.

The 23-year-old was snapped up for £24m from Sheffield United in August to provide competition for Bernd Leno, but the England international replaced the German in goal for the 1-0 win over Norwich last month and has kept his place since then.

Ramsdale claims he was somewhat taken aback that he was handed the number one jersey so early on following his arrival at the London club but he is loving every minute of it:

“Possibly the best month I could have wished for. It is not something I expected so soon. I believed in my ability to get into the team but I thought it would take a while transitioning to the way they play, new team-mates, getting into the team helping them out.”

If you compare the stats between Ramsdale and Leno, it is no surprise that the Englishman continues to be favoured by manager Mikel Arteta.

Ramsdale has a save percentage of 90%, while the German managed only 50% in his first three Premier League matches this season. He is also outperforming his teammate in terms of Post Shot Expected Goals – Goals Conceded.
