Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund have made “important offers” for Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The Italian international’s preferred move is believed to be Juventus but the Serie A club are finding it hard to come up with the funds necessary to complete the deal.

It means that, even though the Gunners are not favourites to sign Locatelli this summer, they are still in the race, along with a number of other clubs who can match Sassuolo’s €40m (£34m) asking price.

While Dortmund are thought to be the other team who are serious about battling with Juventus, Gazzetta also suggests that Real Madrid, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain could enter the reckoning.

With Juve being Locatelli’s favoured destination, the Biaconeri remain in the driving seat, but the longer that negotiations go on for, the greater the chances Arsenal have of being able to hijack the deal.
