Arsenal are prepared to match Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio’s contract demands, according to reports in the Italian media.

The Gunners are believed to be battling AC Milan for the Spaniard’s signature but the London club have the advantage when it comes to wages.

While the Rossoneri would struggle to match Asensio’s €7m a year (£112,500 a week) demands, Arsenal would have no trouble with agreeing to such a salary.

Real are expected to let the 26-year-old leave for around €25m (£21m), which is a quite reasonable fee for a player who has been in decent form so far this season.

Asensio has scored 10 goals in 35 appearances, which is his best scoring return for five years, but there are question marks over whether he is the type of signing the Gunners need.

The Spanish international prefers to play on the right wing, cutting in onto his stronger left foot. Both Bukayo Saka and Nicolas Pepe prefer to play in the same position, so a move for Asensio may depend on whether Pepe leaves the Emirates this summer.
