Arsenal are prepared to trigger Porto midfielder Vitinha’s €40m (£35m) release clause, according to reports in the Portuguese media.

Earlier this week, it was claimed that Manchester United were the team looking to secure the 22-year-old’s signature but it appears that the Gunners will also make a bid for the player.

Vitinha already has some experience of the Premier League, after spending the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Wolves, but it wasn’t a particularly successful period for the midfielder, who scored just once in 22 appearances.

Things have gone better since he returned to Portugal last summer, managing to establish himself as a regular starter for Porto and getting his first senior cap for his country back in March.

Whether Vitinha is worth the £35m outlay, though, it is debatable. Although he did impress over the course of last season, he managed only two goals and four assists in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. It’s probably wise to wait for some reliable sources in the UK to speak out on whether there is genuine interest in the player.
