Arsenal and Manchester United have tabled contract proposals to Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo, according to reports in the Spanish media.
Barca are believed to have made an offer worth €4m a season to the Uruguayan international but the two Premier League clubs are said to be prepared to double that figure (€8m a year or £128,000 a week).
Araujo is reportedly irked by leaks which suggest that Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen will earn around €6m a year if he does complete his free transfer move to the Camp Nou.
With Araujo being offered significantly less than Christensen, the 23-year-old can’t understand why Barca’s latest offer is so low. With that being the case, he hasn’t ruled out leaving the La Liga club this summer.
President Joan Laporta is thought to be keen on concluding talks as soon as possible and another meeting is likely to be scheduled with Araujo’s agent Flavio Perchman to resolve the situation.
However, Barcelona are not likely to increase their contract proposal by much more, leaving Arsenal in a good position to secure the Uruguayan’s signature.
