Arsenal are “ready to take on” Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign Lyon attacking midfielder Lucas Paqueta this summer, according to Calciomercato.com.
The Italian website reports that the two clubs are expected to go head to head for the Brazilian, who has been in good form so far this season.
Paqueta has scored eight goals and provided five assists in 30 appearances, despite the fact that Lyon are struggling in Ligue One; currently sitting ninth in the table after 27 matches.
Whether the Gunners actually need a player like Paqueta, it is debatable. The 24-year-old, who has 29 caps for Brazil, generally plays as a number 10; a position that Arsenal are already well-stocked in with Martin Odegaard and Emile Smith Rowe.
While Paqueta has been asked to play as a centre-forward and out wide on occasion this campaign, his natural position is in midfield, so it would be a surprise if he is one of Mikel Arteta’s main targets for the summer transfer window.
