AC Milan have opted against making a move for Arsenal winger Willian, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
The reliable Italian journalist claims the prospect of signing the Brazilian, as well as Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva, was discussed in a meeting with technical director Paolo Maldini, who ruled out the transfer:
“I would exclude Bernardo Silva, Willian, today Serginho was on-site and talked about it with Maldini but Milan is not convinced.”
Willian is reportedly earning £190,000 a week at the Emirates, but he struggled for form following his free transfer move from Chelsea, and he has been looking for a new club since the end of last season.
The 33-year-old has been heavily linked with a return to former club Corinthians in recent days but the player is thought to be keen on staying in Europe. Milan would likely have been seen as an ideal destination but it appears the Serie A side have turned their attentions elsewhere.
With it being likely that Arsenal will allow Willian to leave on a free, he could well move teams after the transfer deadline next week.
