Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes Roma forward Tammy Abraham should be targeting a move to the Gunners, rather than thinking about a return to Stamford Bridge.

The England international left the Blues for Serie A last year, and has gone on to score 23 goals in all competitions. However, his former team do have a buyback option on the striker that comes into effect in 2023. Petit, though, feels that Abraham would be better off with Arsenal:

“He went to Italy with the feeling of revenge for what happened at Chelsea. He’s not stupid, he will see what’s going on with the strikers at Chelsea with Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, they’re struggling. So maybe he’s thinking, ‘it would have been worse for me if I had stayed at Chelsea’. He made the right decision and he’s having a great season with Roma.

“I’m pretty sure he wants to come back to England and he would fit perfectly at Arsenal because he’s a different player to Alexandre Lacazette with a different style, different physique and he’s a goalscorer. Even at Chelsea, he was scoring goals, not as many as he wanted, but he’s 24 years old so he still has a lot to learn.”

Abraham was on the Gunners’ list of targets before he made the switch to Rome, but it remains to be seen whether they will consider going back in for him at the end of the season.

Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, Lille’s Jonathan David and Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin are also being looked at as potential options to strengthen the attack, and it is still not known who will end up being Arsenal’s top priority this summer.
