Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell was disappointed that the Gunners didn’t make a concerted effort to sign Tammy Abraham in the summer.

The 23-year-old was a target for the Gunners but the forward ended up moving to Roma instead for €40m (£34m) last month. Campbell feels the ex-Chelsea player would have been a great addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad:

“I truly believe Arsenal missed a trick because we still do not have anyone up the top end of the pitch who is a physical presence. Abraham causes teams a problem just by being there. It is a big trick missed. I cannot believe we didn’t go for it.”

“Abraham does not get the credit he deserves. He is a damn good player. I have been watching him since he was in the youth teams. I could tell back then that he was going to be some player.”

Abraham has had a superb start to life in Italy, scoring once and providing two assists in his three appearances so far. It is very much a case of ‘what might have been’ for Arsenal.

The main reason the Gunners could not pursue their interest in the England international was simply because they were unable to offload Eddie Nketiah or Alexandre Lacazette.

Both players’ contracts expire at the end of the season and the London club were keen to raise funds from their sale which could have financed their move for Abraham.
