Arsenal have been in talks with the agent of Benfica forward Darwin Nunez, according to reports in the UK.
The Uruguayan international has been linked with a whole host of Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle, while West Ham are said to have had an offer rejected for the player in January.
However, it seems the Gunners are already putting the groundwork in place ahead of a summer bid, and supporters on Twitter are happy that the club are pursuing the 22-year-old:
Nunez, I see cavani vibes

Nunez is the guy. Brilliant facing goal, brilliant facing away from goal.

@arsenal Nunez would be good but also hunt for bigger experienced strikers , nothing stops us from going for the likes of lewandowski , haaland etc if we make it into the UCL.

I really do prefer nuneZ he’s clearly in the ranks of vlahovic he has the strength like bull and is hungry for goals and he knows how to play a good link up game like isak tho not maybe like vlahovic but I’ll take Nunez over any body on the list for now

Benfica are expected to demand around €80m (£67m) for the Uruguayan so securing his signature won’t be easy, but Arsenal were believed to be prepared to pay a similar amount for Dusan Vlahovic back in January.
It has been claimed, though, that Nunez is aiming to move to a team playing in the Champions League, so finishing in the top four is crucial if the Gunners are to stand any chance of signing him at the end of the season.
