Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell believes Hector Bellerin won’t play for the Gunners again after leaving for Real Betis on loan.
The La Liga side don’t have the option to buy Bellerin but Campbell firmly believes that the 26-year-old’s departure on a temporary basis signals the end of this time with the club:
“Let’s be honest, he needed a fresh challenge. He was going a bit stale at Arsenal. He was never quite the same after the injury, I have to say. I think that is him gone now. He is back in Spain at a good club in Betis and I fully expect him to leave permanently after that. Betis are a good side that like to attack so that will suit him.”
As we have seen with Sead Kolasinac this campaign, things can change fast in football. The Bosnian was expected to make his move to Schalke permanent at the end of last season, but he returned to the Emirates.
In Bellerin’s case, much will depend on how well he does at Betis. If he impresses, it may spur the Spanish club into signing him on a permanent basis, or the fullback may attract interest from other teams.
With Arsenal having now recruited Takehiro Tomiyasu to add to the options that manager Mikel Arteta already has at right-back, there would be very little room for Bellerin were he to return next summer.
