Sporting Lisbon forward Tiago Tomas has poured cold water on recent transfer rumours linking him with Arsenal and committed his future to his current club.

The 19-year-old has been on the Gunners’ radar in recent months but, when asked about the speculation, Tomas said he is happy to remain at Sporting:

“I’ve always been focused on Sporting. This is where I want to stay and, honestly, the market [speculation] completely misses me.”

Arsenal are said to be eyeing a new striker if either Alexandre Lacazette or Eddie Nketiah do leave the club this summer, but reports suggest that Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham would be their number one target.

Tomas reportedly has a €60m (£51.3m) release clause so he would be a more expensive option than Abraham, who is believed to be available for around £40m.

There is a feeling, though, that Tomas does have a higher ceiling. He has already been likened to a cross between Kylian Mbappe and Kaka, which makes him sound like a very exciting prospect.

However, the teenager has yet to really live up to that potential, having scored just six goals in 37 appearances last season.
