Arsenal are interested in signing Verona striker Giovanni Simeone for €20m (£17m) this summer, according to TMW.
The Italian website claims that the Gunners have entered the race “in the last few hours” suggesting that they are prepared to put in a bid for the Argentinian international.
Simeone, who is Atletico boss Diego’s son, is currently on loan at Verona from Cagliari but the Serie A side intend to sign him on a permanent basis for €10m (£8.5m) before selling him on for a profit.
The 26-year-old had an excellent season, scoring 17 goals in 36 league appearances, and it appears that Arsenal see him as a relatively cheap option to add depth to their frontline.
Manager Mikel Arteta lost Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona in January, while the free transfer exit of Alexandre Lacazette has left them very short of numbers up front. Simeone could be seen as a secondary option to a new first-choice number nine, but it remains to be seen if these reports from Italy are accurate.
