West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is almost certain to leave the Hawthorns this summer, according to new Baggies boss Valerien Ismael.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a £20m move to Arsenal and West Ham in recent days, and asked whether the shot-stopper would be moving clubs, Ismael said he expects both the England international and his teammate Matheus Pereira to be sold:

“It’s not a secret, Sam Johnstone and Matheus Pereira are the two players who can leave. It’s my expectation they will leave.”

It remains to be seen where Johnstone fits on the Gunners’ list of transfer targets. The London club have been linked with a number of goalkeepers, including Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale and Barcelona’s Neto.

In a recent post, we assessed the strengths and weaknesses of the three keepers and we singled out Johnstone as being the best all-round performer.

With Ramsdale’s price tag reportedly being £40m as well, Johnstone would certainly be a lot cheaper, but we shall see over the coming days whether there is any substance to the rumours that Arsenal are interested in him.
