Arsenal would be getting an upgrade on Nicolas Pepe if they snap up Noa Lang from Club Brugge, according to Belgian journalist Bart Lagae.
Reports in Spain in recent days have suggested that the Gunners are one of the teams who are interested in signing Lang, who is believed to be valued at €22m (£19m) by his club.
Asked about Lang’s qualities, Lagae suggested that he would offer much more than Pepe and could complement both Bukayo Saka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang:
“I think for Arsenal he [Lang] can on both wings. For instance, on the right, in Nicolas Pepe’s position. I would say he is even more focused on the goal and assisting than Pepe. He is probably a better player. He can have a good combination with Saka. Saka, the player making runs and Lang, the passer. Lang doesn’t go deep without the ball; he always asks for the ball. So, I think having him in combination with Saka and a striker, Aubameyang etc, would work very well.”
It should be pointed out that the likelihood of the Dutch winger moving to the Emirates anytime soon is rather remote. Lagae believes that Club Brugge won’t be willing to let the player leave before the end of the season.
On top of that, Lang would only be interested in joining a club playing in the Champions League and, after Arsenal’s bad start to the campaign, qualification for Europe’s top competition looks unlikely at the moment.
