Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell thinks Antonio Conte would find it difficult to improve the Gunners’ fortunes with the players currently at the club.
A series of individual mistakes helped Manchester City thrash Arsenal 5-0 at the weekend, and Campbell claims Conte would be wise to turn down the job if it was offered to him:
“If I’m Antonio Conte and I’m looking at that yesterday, I wouldn’t go anywhere near it. Let’s be honest, I wouldn’t go anywhere near it. Because it’s the basics. They’re getting the basics wrong. And if you can’t do the basics as a professional footballer… The manager can prepare you as much as he wants for a game. Once you cross that game, it’s your job”
It is believed that current manager Mikel Arteta will be given a chance to turn things around, with games coming up against Norwich City and Burnley after the international break.
However, if the team’s poor form continues, it won’t be long before a change of management will be considered, and Conte would certainly be at the top of the list of replacements.
The former Chelsea head coach has won five league titles and he was instrumental in turning two sleeping giants, Juventus and Inter Milan, back into perennial winners. He would seem a perfect fit for Arsenal but whether he’d want the job is another matter entirely.
