Paul Merson is expecting Arsenal to have a difficult time against Manchester United in the lunchtime kickoff tomorrow.

The Sky Sports pundit says that, while the Red Devils have been in awful form recently, he believes they will play a lot better at the Emirates, and the Gunners may have to settle for a draw:

“This is a harder game than most people think. Most fans think Arsenal are going to turn up and win, but this is a difficult game. Arsenal are a young team and are very inconsistent. They’ve lost three games on the trot but defeated Chelsea easily. Manchester United are going to turn up here – I’ve just got a feeling. No one expects them to do anything this season, so they’ll just go out and play. That might make it a little difficult for Arsenal.”

“It’ll be hard for Cristiano Ronaldo to play this game but if he does, I’d expect the others to turn up for him. Erik ten Hag has been appointed as Manchester United’s manager this week – very good luck to him. I don’t think his appointment will have much of an impact on this game, but Arsenal will not find it easy this weekend.”

Merson has gone with a 2-2 scoreline, which is a surprising prediction, considering Mikel Arteta’s side head into the contest after their confidence-boosting win at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

United were very poor against Liverpool last time out and, while Arsenal should expect some sort of reaction, the Manchester side simply don’t have the personnel to put up much of a fight.

Merson does point out that Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to return to the team this weekend, but the likes of Paul Pogba, Luke Shaw, Edinson Cavani and Fred will all be missing. The Gunners will be disappointed if they don’t get all three points.
