Arsenal will “close” the signing of Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares “this week” with Anderlecht’s Albert Sambi Lokonga likely to follow closely behind, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
The reliable Italian journalist claims the Gunners are “ready to place a double hit” by securing their first two purchases of the summer transfer window.
It is believed Tavares will cost around £7m, with the 21-year-old expected to provide competition for Kieran Tierney at left-back.
Lokonga’s transfer may take slightly longer to be completed but Di Marzio reports that Arsenal and Anderlecht are working on the minor details of a €17m (£14.6m) transfer.
Performance-related add-ons will be included, but it is thought that the major bone of contention is whether a sell-on clause will be inserted. Once that is resolved then it seems Lokonga’s switch to the Emirates will be finalised.
With the London club also locked in talks with Brighton over signing Ben White, it appears technical director Edu and manager Mikel Arteta are trying to get their business done as early as possible.
