Arsenal have reportedly stepped up their attempts to sign Juventus midfielder Arthur, with manager Mikel Arteta keen to add depth in midfield.
The 25-year-old is believed to be interested in making the switch to the Emirates this month, but fans on Twitter are split on whether the Brazilian is the best option:
We need a midfielder, and it’s difficult for us to get any of our long term targets, so this seems like a no brainer. He’s not gonna make us worse, and it’s only short term.

Those teams were in a general decline. You could say same about Ramsdale. I don’t think Authur has played his best with the best.

Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes, Palmeiras’ Danilo, Bologna’s Matias Svanberg and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria have all been mentioned as possible alternatives to Arthur.
However, none of those four midfield options are thought to be available on loan this month while, in contrast, the Juventus star could be secured on a temporary basis.
Such a deal would better suit Arsenal’s needs. Both Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny are currently away at the African Cup of Nations but they won’t be absent for that long.
With that in mind, it doesn’t seem wise to spend £37.5m on someone like Guimaraes if the club are not entirely convinced that he will be a regular starter straight away. Loaning Arthur would, therefore, be seen as a better short-term solution.
