Ex-Arsenal defender Lee Dixon says he would like his former club to pursue a move for Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer.

The England international is unlikely to sign a new contract with the Yorkshire side and there has been speculation that they would be open to selling the player for around £60m to £70m. Dixon thinks he could be a good addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad:

“I like Kalvin Phillips, I am a big fan. I think he would be a good fit. I just like the way he is an all-round [player].”

The Gunners were actively looking for a midfielder in the January transfer window, and they made a concerted effort to sign Arthur from Juventus before the deal collapsed, so it is an area of the pitch that the club will look at improving in the next transfer window.

As Dixon mentions, Phillips is a very good all-round midfielder and he could compliment Thomas Partey well in the middle of the park. Aston Villa, West Ham, Liverpool and Manchester United have also been linked with the 26-year-old so we shall see who decides to make a formal bid for him in the coming months.
