Former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is in the frame to become Celtic’s next head coach, according to the Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

The reporter, who is known to be reliable when it comes to transfer rumours, was asked on Twitter whether Howe is a genuine contender for the Hoops’ post and he replied:

It does seem as though Howe is in contention but whether that translates to him agreeing to take on the role, we shall have to wait and see.

Others in England have downplayed the possibility of the 43-year-old moving north of the border, as there is likely to be a number of vacancies at Premier League clubs in the summer.

Roy Hodgson could leave Crystal Palace when his contract expires in June, while Steve Bruce is likely to part ways with Newcastle, whether the Magpies stay up or not. With that being the case, Celtic may not be Howe’s preferred option.
