The agent of Bristol City forward Antoine Semenyo has cast doubt on the prospects of Celtic making a move for the 22-year-old in the summer transfer window.

Tony Finnigan has revealed that Hoops scout Craig Strachan has made a tentative enquiry about the player, but there has been no concrete interest at this stage:

“I had a conversation with Strachan who rang up to ask little bits of info on the player and a bit about how I found him and what he’s like as a lad. That was it. If it’s something they’re going to do in the summer window I’m not sure but it’s nice to know that his talents are going as far as Scotland to one of the great institutions in world football. There’s not really much more to say than that.”

Semenyo is believed to be valued in the £15m to £20m range by Bristol City and, for that price, there is no way Celtic would consider making a bid for the striker.

However, with the Englishman’s current deal set to expire in 2023, there is the possibility that the Hoops are considering an offer to sign him on a pre-contract agreement next January.

Whether Semenyo will still be at Ashton Gate by then, it is up for debate. Interest in the player is increasing, with Red Bull Salzburg, Nottingham Forest and Watford, as well as other teams, all thought to be keeping tabs.
