The agent of Dundee United goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist has confirmed that Celtic have scouted the former Swiss Under 21 international on multiple occasions this season.

Asked about the 28-year-old’s future following a good start to the campaign, Thomas Kraft said that Celtic, as well as teams in Germany and Holland, have been keeping tabs on the player’s performances:

“Benjamin has had an extraordinary season and the match against Hibernian he produced a high level performance. There is interest in him from clubs in the Bundesliga and the Dutch Eredivisie. Celtic have also scouted him several times, that is true. But today, at this moment, we have no official offer from Celtic.”

“Will Benjamin leave Dundee United in January? It depends on the financial situation at United. You would have to ask the club, it’s difficult for me to say. If there was a chance to move to Celtic then that would be a very good step for Benjamin. The other option is to sell him in the summer, but if there is an opportunity in January that could be probable.”

As Kraft points out, the Hoops have not tabled a formal bid for Siegrist and it remains to be seen whether the Scottish champions do make a move for another goalkeeper when the January transfer window opens.

Conor Hazard is currently number one, after both Vasilis Barkas and Scott Bain failed to impress manager Neil Lennon during their spells in the first team this season. There has been talk about trying to re-sign Fraser Forster on loan from Southampton for a second time but it does appear Head of Football Operations Nick Hammond is looking at a number of different options.
