Celtic have an “agreement in principle” to sign Kawasaki Frontale midfielder Reo Hatate, according to the Scottish Sun.
The tabloid claims that sources in Japan believe that a deal is now very likely to be sealed ahead of the transfer window opening next month.
It was originally believed that Hatate’s contract was set to expire at the end of January but that turned out not to be the case, and further reports then suggested that there was a large gap between the two clubs on the transfer fee.
Over subsequent days, it appears the difference in valuation has been bridged and Hatate now looks poised to finalise his move to Scotland.
The Japanese international played his final game of the season yesterday after being knocked out of the Emperor’s Cup 5-4 on aggregate by Oita Trinita. With no more matches to play, it is the perfect time for negotiations to take place.
