Celtic manager Neil Lennon has confirmed that striker Odsonne Edouard is a major doubt for Thursday’s opening Europa League group stage match against AC Milan.

The Frenchman had been quarantining after testing positive for COVID-19 and was subsequently absent from the squad for the 2-0 defeat to Rangers yesterday but, speaking after the match, Lennon’s said the forward’s lack of fitness means a return for the massive European fixture is very unlikely:

“He’s had cardiac and blood tests and we’ll see how he is. He’s not trained for nearly two weeks and only got back on Friday. We can’t take a chance on anyone’s health and he wasn’t ready, anyway. We knew he had no chance, but couldn’t say it publicly. I doubt he’ll be okay for Thursday.”

Centre-back Christopher Jullien was also absent from the squad against Rangers, with youngster Stephen Welsh taking his place in the side. Lennon confirmed that the Frenchman is also not expected to be fit when the Hoops host Milan later this week:

“Chris Jullien, I doubt very much will be available…maybe Ryan, maybe we’ll have Ryan back, we’ll have to see how it is over the next few days.”

As Lennon also mentions, Ryan Christie could well return from quarantine following his 14 days of self-isolation but it looks as though both Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed will remain absent after the former tested positive for COVID-19 on international duty.
