Southampton are keen on snapping up Celtic attacking midfielder Ryan Christie this summer, according to reports in the UK.
The 26-year-old is out of contract in the New Year, with most expecting the Scottish international to be offloaded at a knockdown price so he isn’t allowed to move on a free transfer.
Norwich, Burnley, Newcastle, Leeds, Leicester and Arsenal have also been mentioned as potential suitors in recent months but it appears that Southampton will be the favourites for Christie’s signature.
Whether the Hoops will ask for the likes of Mohammed Elyounoussi or Fraser Forster as part of the deal, we shall have to wait and see.
Those types of decisions will be down to the new director of football and head coach. Neither position has yet been filled but recent speculation suggests that Fergal Harkin and Ange Postecoglou are the likeliest to take up the two roles. The pair may well have other targets in mind but, nonetheless, Christie’s departure seems inevitable.
