Celtic defender Hatem Abd Elhamed has told the Scottish champions that he would like to leave during the January transfer window, according to reports.

The Israeli international only signed for the Hoops last year but he has been struggling with some personal issues. He is currently living alone in Scotland, away from his wife and son and the isolation caused by the virus has left him homesick.

With that being the case, Celtic are understood to be willing to listen to offers for Elhamed next month. They do expect to get back the £1.6m they paid for the 29-year-old, but they won’t sell up without finding a replacement first.

The Hoops could well have some issues at right-back in the not too distant future, with Jeremie Frimpong also attracting interest from English Premier League and Championship clubs. It means finding someone to replace Elhamed will be one of the main priorities for Head of Football Nicky Hammond next month.
