VVV Venlo technical director Stan Valckx says he is confident that Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis will score 15 to 20 goals for the Hoops before the end of the campaign.
The Greek international has struggled with fitness issues since arriving for £2.5m in the summer but Valckx is expecting the forward to have a big impact on Scottish football:
“I don’t think it is unrealistic to say that between now and the end of the season he can score between 15 and 20 goals in Scotland. That should be realistic. Before I went to Poland to watch him in the flesh I had seen a few of his games on Wyscout (a video analysis system for scouts), and what I saw is that he never gives up.”
Giakoumakis has played barely 20 minutes for Celtic following his switch from VVV but manager Ange Postecoglou claims that the 26-year-old has made a good deal of progress in terms of his fitness levels during the international break.
Whether he will start against Motherwell tomorrow, we shall have to wait and see, but if he isn’t in the first eleven for the game at Fir Park, he could well make his full debut in the home match against Ferencvaros in the Europa League on Tuesday night.
Fans will be hoping that Valckx’s prediction about Giakoumakis does turn out to be true.
