Celtic’s Head of Football Nicky Hammond believes the Hoops may well still be in with a chance of signing Peterborough striker Ivan Toney, according to reports in the Scottish media.

Brentford are believed to have had a £5m accepted by the Posh for the 24-year-old but the forward is expected to move agents on September 1st and that may change things.

Hammond is said to be working on the deal and if Toney remains at London Road until after the agent switch, it is said the Hoops will stand more of a chance of signing the player.

The former Newcastle striker scored 26 goals in all competitions last season, and Celtic are very keen to add his firepower to their forward line.

Peterborough’s Director of Football Barry Fry has already confirmed the Scottish champions’ interest, saying he has kept them informed after they accepted a bid from Brentford for Toney earlier this week.
