Celtic have slapped an £8m price tag on centre-back Kristoffer Ajer, according to reports in the Scottish media.

It wasn’t long ago that the Hoops were demanding in excess of £15m for the Norwegian international but, with the defender closing in on the final twelve months of his contract at Parkhead, the club have had little choice but to lower their demands.

A scout from Newcastle was reportedly in the stands for the Glasgow derby against Rangers yesterday afternoon, but he wouldn’t have been impressed by what he saw of Ajer in the 4-1 defeat.

The 23-year-old ducked instead of trying to clear Alfredo Morelos’s shot, which resulted in Celtic conceding their second goal of the game at Ibrox.

Ajer does, though, remain a highly sought-after defender, with AC Milan having been heavily linked with the centre-half in the past, while newly promoted Norwich City are also thought to be interested in snapping him up.
