Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard would have to waive £1.8m in compensation if he were to take a new job before the end of the season, according to reports in England.

The 42-year-old was sacked by the Blues in January but, as part of the severance package, it was agreed he would continue to receive £75,000 a week until the summer.

Celtic have been linked with appointing Lampard as a replacement for manager Neil Lennon, with the bookmakers currently having him as fourth favourite to take up the role at Parkhead.

However, due to the compensation payments, it means Lampard is unlikely to accept any job before July unless the offer is too good to refuse.

That may prove troublesome for Celtic who are likely to be playing European qualifiers quite early on in the summer. It doesn’t necessarily mean that Lampard has been ruled out from taking the job but the chances of him being appointed are now much lower.
