Celtic have had a €3m (£2.53m) bid for Caen striker Alexander Mendy rejected, according to reports in the French media.
The 28-year-old has scored 16 goals in all competitions this season, and it appears that the Hoops are keen to add even more firepower to their frontline.
Manager Ange Postecoglou has signed the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Giorgos Giakoumakis and Daizen Maeda over the past year, who have all contributed their fair share in attack, but it seems Celtic are keen on signing Mendy too. Supporters on Twitter are not convinced that the club should be spending more money on a position where they are already well covered:
Do we nd another striker…other areas nd reinforced for nxt season more than striker..backline been excellent this season, but nd solid backup

I’d put this in the unlikely category – we have great depth at CF with Maeda, GG, Kyogo. Ajeti still on the books and the likes of Kenny and Dawson in the B side.
We probably need more depth or options in the wide position as Jota’s future is uncertain & JF/MJ not up to it.

Same was said by some about GG

At 28, although not old, I don’t see how it fits into a model of transfers in terms of resale value

Seems a bit daft. Not sure I believe this story. Journeyman with a poor goals tally. Best season of his life this year but it’s not how he’s played the other 8 seasons

We are in the UCL next season, Hope if we do buy him he proves me wrong but i don’t think we should be looking at second tier players anymore.

Little bit too old, We should be looking to sign players at the age of 24 and under imo.

We really don’t need another striker

It should be pointed out that Mendy hasn’t exactly been a prolific scorer in his career. Up until this season, the most he had managed in a single campaign was eight. When you also consider the player’s age, it doesn’t seem like the type of business that Celtic would normally do.
