Celtic defender Nir Bitton put in a very good display in Israel’s 1-0 win against Scotland last night. The 29-year-old kept the likes of Lyndon Dykes quiet to help maintain a clean sheet on the night.
At club level, under manager Neil Lennon, Bitton has been used more often than not as a centre-back and the player has certainly performed well in the position when called upon.
Supporters on Twitter praised Bitton’s performance after the game yesterday, with a few even stating that he was the man of the match:
He plays with his slippers on ?

He’s got to be in there before Duffy.
Always composed on the ball, can play and also not a coward.

Big Nir Bitton the best player on the pitch in that game IMO. Brilliant on the ball.

It remains to be seen whether Bitton will start Celtic’s game against Hibernian on Saturday. The Israeli did partner Kristoffer Ajer in the centre of defence in the last game against Motherwell before the international break.
With Shane Duffy really struggling to perform to the required level, it does seem as though Bitton is ahead of the Republic of Ireland international in the pecking order at the moment, and his performance against Scotland would certainly have done him no harm.
