Ex-Celtic striker Chris Sutton claims there is a silver lining in his former club being knocked out of Europe on Thursday night.

With no European action, it means the Hoops can play on Saturday in the coming weeks, crucially before Rangers, which Sutton believes could hand them a crucial edge in the title race:

“With Rangers still in Europe, Celtic will get the chance to pile on the pressure by playing first over the next few weekends. That could be a huge psychological benefit – but only if you keep winning.”

Playing first could prove to be an important factor during the run-in. Ange Postecoglou’s side can stretch their lead to six points before the Gers have a chance to play, which puts extra pressure on the Light Blues to win.

Of course, for this to be a common theme throughout the rest of the campaign, Rangers would have to go deep into the Europa League knockout rounds.

While Celtic supporters will be very disappointed with the way they were knocked out of the Europa Conference League by Bodo/Glimt, it may yet prove to be a good omen for bringing back the title to Parkhead.
