Watford captain Troy Deeney is convinced that Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard will be a hit if the Frenchman moves to the English Premier League this summer.

Hoops supporters have been far from impressed with the 23-year-old’s inconsistent form this season, and while Deeney acknowledges that the player’s performances have dropped, he thinks the forward possesses the right attributes to make it down south:

“I think he is suited to the top flight in England. He is powerful, he is quick enough and has an eye for goal. His goal-scoring record – I don’t think he has been particularly good consistently this season with Celtic – but his goalscoring record for the French-Under-21s is remarkable. He could play in a team in the big league. Absolutely.”

Edouard is believed to be on the radar of clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool, West Ham and Leicester, but no team has so far firmed up their interest in the France Under 21 international.

With the striker’s current deal expiring in 2022, Celtic are expected to offload him, and it will be hoped that he finishes the campaign in decent form in order to attract more bidders.

Currently, it does appear that the club will have to take a major hit on Edouard, with the current £20m price tag unlikely to be matched by any interested party.
