Ex-Celtic captain Scott Brown left his player/coach role at Aberdeen earlier this week and, when asked about a potential return to Parkhead yesterday, Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou said he would be welcomed back to the club:
“From my perspective, I don’t think anyone should be in any doubt that there will always be an open door here for Scott Brown. The guy is one of the legends of this football club and will go down as one of the greatest ever. In terms of what he wants to do with his future, he’s best placed to answer that. He’s obviously made a decision right now and then after that, it’s up to him.”
Brown is reportedly focusing on his “coaching development” after leaving Pittodrie and when fans on Twitter were asked about the legend potentially returning to Celtic in some capacity, there was a mixed reaction:
In a heartbeat 🍀

No.Let him gain experience outwith https://t.co/PkouMJS9C5 will stand us in better stead for future. We have had too much nepotism in our coaching staff in recent years.

I would have him in with the youth setup, mountains of experience and his mental strength could benefit the youngsters also

No. Celtic should be hiring the top coaches available.

Ridiculous to suggest someone with no coaching experience should be handed a job, rather than earn his stripes at a lower level like every one else.

As Postecoglou makes clear himself, the ball is very much in Brown’s court. He may want to continue his development away from prying eyes at a team in the lower leagues or in another country. We just don’t know at this stage.
Considering his vast amount of experience in the game, winning multiple titles with Celtic, you would have to think that his presence at Lennoxtown could prove to be very useful if he does join Postecoglou’s coaching staff during the run-in.
