Celtic are keen on signing Liverpool defender Ben Davies, according to Daily Mail journalist Dominic King.
The reporter, who is usually pretty accurate when it comes to the Reds, claims that the Hoops are competing with Bournemouth and Sheffield United for the 25-year-old’s signature, with the latter having already had a loan bid knocked back:
Liverpool have confirmed a new long term deal for Fabinho, story first flagged in May.
Celtic, Sheffield United and Bournemouth, meanwhile, all interested in signing Ben Davies. Sheff U have had an initial loan enquiry turned down ?— Dominic King (@DominicKing_DM) August 3, 2021
After missing out on Davies in January, it seems Celtic’s recruitment team are determined to get him at the second time of asking. With Liverpool having already turned down a loan offer, though, it appears that the Hoops will have to make an attempt to sign him on a permanent basis.
Whether the Scottish club will be happy to do that, considering they missed out on snapping up Davies on a free transfer six months ago, we shall have to wait and see.
Manager Ange Postecoglou desperately needs another option at centre-half, with Christopher Jullien still some way off from returning to match fitness, and it seems Davies is the number one target currently.
