Ex-Celtic midfielder Alan Thompson is hoping that his former club replicate their performance in the last Glasgow derby when they face Rangers this weekend.

Ange Postecoglou’s side head to Ibrox knowing that a victory would put them in touching distance of the title and Thompson says there is a lot on the line in Sunday’s game:

“Celtic blew Rangers away in February with their tempo, if they go there and play well with their tempo and high press they can come away with the three points, it would be massive. They look like they’re playing well and full of confidence, they will have a game plan to go and probably press high and create chances for the strikers.”

Celtic’s record at Ibrox hasn’t been great in recent meetings, with their last win coming back in September 2019 so the odds are not in the away side’s favour heading into the match.

However, while a victory would be huge as Thompson points out, a draw would also not be a bad result in terms of the title race. The pressure really is on Rangers to perform, and that should give the Hoops the opportunity to play with a bit of freedom.

Of course, it is a derby, so the intensity of the occasion will make it a tense affair, nonetheless, but Postecoglou’s men are going into the game in excellent form so they should be confident of getting the three points.
