Former Celtic forward John Hartson thinks Scotland manager Steve Clarke should be the favourite to take the vacant post at Parkhead.

Hartson also named former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, ex Wales manager Mark Hughes and Roy Keane as his three other candidates for the job but he feels Clarke would be the perfect fit, if he was prepared to leave his current role:

“Steve Clarke would be my number one to go to, if he was available, but obviously he is in charge of Scotland. He did a fantastic job at Kilmarnock, and has worked with the best in the past in terms of learning and picked up from the best. He’s got Scotland in the Euro’s and we will see how Scotland do there. He would be someone for me if I had the opportunity, and was picking a manager, I would pick someone like Steve Clarke.”

The bookmakers currently have Clarke as a rank outsider, with most having him as the tenth favourite for the post. Speculation over Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder’s future has prompted talk of him taking over at Celtic Park so he is currently the frontrunner.

Caretaker boss John Kennedy is second favourite, Manchester City Under 23 manager Enzo Maresca is third in the running, with Keane fourth and Howe fifth. The odds for Hughes are just as long as Clarke’s with punters currently not backing either of them heavily to become the next manager.
