Former Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is more likely to be attracted to jobs at Newcastle and West Bromwich Albion, than the vacant post at Celtic, according to journalist Alan Biggs.

The reporter’s opinion is well respected in Sheffield, and he claims that Wilder is almost certain to stay in England rather than move north of the border:

“He’s been linked with Celtic but I can’t see that one. What I do see is either West Brom or Newcastle for sure. I do know that in 2019 following Sheffield United’s promotion, Newcastle investigated the possibility of recruiting him but he stayed loyal and wanted to manage his team in the top-flight.”

“I think it would appeal to him but I’m not speaking with any sort of knowledge of having discussed it with him but I think it would. Equally with West Brom, even in the Championship, the potential to take them where he wants to. I think either of those two is absolutely logical.”

Biggs’ comments do suggest that the likelihood of Wilder moving to Parkhead is pretty low currently. Another journalist has recently claimed that the 53-year-old is on a four-man shortlist for the Hoops job.

Roy Keane, Steve Clarke and Enzo Maresca are reportedly the other names being considered, but it seems Wilder is the rank outsider now.

At the bookmakers, Keane is the heavy favourite, with numerous sources now confirming that the Irishman has held talks with the club, although, at the time of writing, no decision has been made on the club’s next manager.
