Celtic are now poised to sign West Ham striker Albian Ajeti on a season-long loan, with an option to buy the Swiss international for £5m, according to reports in the UK.

It is believed that Hoops boss Neil Lennon personally held talks with the player’s agent last night and that intervention has convinced the forward that a move to Scotland is right for him.

Ajeti had initially stalled on the move, saying he needed more time to think things over, but this breakthrough could mean that the transfer will be finalised pretty quickly.

It is thought that the loan deal could now be announced at the start of next week, as long as no other club come in to hijack the move at the last minute.

Celtic have been scouring the market for a new striker, with Peterborough’s Ivan Toney and former Sheffield Wednesday forward Steven Fletcher having been considered, but it seems Ajeti is the player they have plumped for.
