Brentford striker Ivan Toney has scored 16 goals in 23 league games since he moved to the Bees from Peterborough in the summer.
Before making the switch to the English Championship club, the Posh’s Director of Football Barry Fry confirmed that Celtic tried to sign him but failed to meet their asking price.
Following his excellent first half of the season with Brentford, Hoops’ fans on Twitter have been blaming the club’s board and recruitment department for not getting the deal over the line:

Better than anyone in our front line this season and in a stronger league.

Lennons no 1 target. Got Ajeti instead. For 5 million Ajeti should still be a player

How many examples of that story can you remember down the years.

Just about sums up Lawwell, absolutely no ambition or proper football knowledge,Celtic will go nowhere in Europe whilst he remains at Celtic.

Toney is now reportedly in the sights of Arsenal and West Ham after a stellar campaign, and it is not surprising that Celtic are regretting the decision not to go all-out for the forward.
The 24-year-old cost Brentford an initial £5m, which was the same amount the Scottish champions paid for Albian Ajeti. The cost of Toney’s deal may well rise to £10m but that shouldn’t have put off Neil Lennon’s side, considering that the figure would have still dwarfed the amount they should receive for Odsonne Edouard.
