Ex-Celtic player Frank McAvennie says he is now confident that Jota will sign a permanent deal with the Scottish champions this summer.

The Portuguese Under 21 international had a very good loan spell at the Hoops and McAvennie is keenly anticipating confirmation that the winger will be staying at Parkhead:

“Jota looks as if he is signing. Just from what has been said in the papers but it looks like that one will get done. He’s not on bad wages for a Scottish club, not bad at all. He played really well last year. Sometimes he would shy away and you can’t do that. But for the majority of the time, when he was on it, Celtic were on it.”

“He was the catalyst for a lot of good performances last season and he will only get better if he has a full pre-season with Ange. I’ll be delighted if we get him over the line.”

It should be pointed out that nothing is set in stone yet. While Celtic do have an option to buy Jota for €7.5m (£6.4m), an agreement with the player is needed and personal terms have to be thrashed out.

Reports in the Portuguese media do say that a deal has been all but sewn up but, like with the Cameron Carter-Vickers transfer, fans will be waiting for an official statement from the club before jumping to any conclusions.

Securing Jota’s signature would be a big boost for Ange Postecoglou’s side. The 23-year-old played a big role in the Hoops winning the league and cup double, scoring 13 goals and providing 14 assists in all competitions.
