Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has said that the Scottish club are still in negotiations to sign both Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota on permanent deals.

Reports both in the Portuguese and Scottish media this week suggested that a €7.5m move (£6.4m) for Jota was close to being finalised, after the player gave his approval, It has also been claimed that talks with Tottenham are at an advanced stage to snap up Carter-Vickers for an initial £6m. However, Postecoglou struck a note of caution when asked about a potential double deal:

“We are in discussions with them obviously, and as I have said all along, with these kind of things it’s never a simple process. But both have had unbelievable years for us and been outstanding contributors and both are really happy here. Our intent is to try and keep them at our football club but these things need a point where all parties agree. I am hopeful we will get to that point but at this point we are not quite there yet.”

Postecoglou is probably just keeping his cards close to his chest. It is never good to look too confident before a transfer has been finalised, especially when there is always the possibility of a last-minute hitch.

Contracts can take a while to be hashed out, while the involvement of agents can also complicate matters. Hopefully, both transfers will be made official in the coming weeks.
