Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is the one pressing for the Scottish club to sign Charlotte midfielder Riley McGree, according to reports in the UK.
It is believed the Hoops have now pushed ahead of rival clubs, including Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest, in the battle to secure the Australian international’s signature.
McGree performed well during a loan spell with Birmingham City in the first half of the season, subsequently leading to him becoming a January transfer target for other English Championship clubs.
However, Postecoglou‘s determination to land the 23-year-old seems to have moved Celtic into pole position for the player’s signature.
It has been claimed that McGree could cost as much as £2m. Considering the Hoops have already shelled out on the likes of Reo Hatate, Yosuke Ideguchi and Daizen Maeda this month, it does appear that Postecoglou is being seriously backed by the club’s board to improve the first-team squad.
