Juventus’s chief scout Matteo Tognozzi is interested in becoming Celtic’s new Director of Football, according to reports in the Scottish media.

The Italian has been with Juve since 2017, having held similar roles at the likes of Zenit St Petersburg, Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburg.

Manchester United also reportedly considered Tognozzi before opting to recruit internally by appointing John Murtough as their first football director instead earlier this week.

That should allow new Celtic chief executive Dominic McKay a clear path to hire Tognozzi in the summer if he is seen as the standout candidate.

Former Bournemouth, Tottenham and Huddersfield scout David Webb has also publicly expressed his interest in the role, with former Hoops player and assistant manager John Collins also having thrown his hat into the ring.

Following some disappointing decisions in the transfer market over the last couple of years, it is extremely important that Celtic get this new appointment right.
