Ex-Celtic striker Chris Sutton thinks that the Hoops may only get £30m for the likes of Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie this summer.
All three players will have just one year remaining on their current deals at the end of the season and Sutton suggests they could have to cut their losses in order to fund a full revamp of the first-team squad:
“It might take at least £60 million for Celtic to catch the new champions. Of course, there will be money coming in to put to that figure. I’d expect that the departures of Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie could bring around £30 million into the building. Reinvesting that and the same again will be required to replace the departing figures and finding the players to improve the squad.”
Edouard has been linked with Leicester, Arsenal and Roma in recent days, with reports claiming that the Hoops may accept an offer of just £15m for the Frenchman, although that figure was disputed by caretaker manager John Kennedy.
Ajer has been mentioned as a possible target for AC Milan, as well as a number of English clubs, while Christie is said to be on the radar of teams such as Burnley, Nice, Leeds, Newcastle, Leicester and Southampton.
Getting just £30m would be a hard pill to swallow, considering they are worth a lot more than that, but Celtic may have little choice if they want to prevent them from leaving for nothing in 2022.
