Ex-Celtic striker Chris Sutton has lavished praise on Liel Abada after an excellent start to his career at the Hoops.

While he admits that the Israeli international has been inconsistent at times, Sutton feels that the winger has been outstanding, for the most part, and his contributions deserve to be recognised.

“Where do you start with Liel Abada? Aged 19 when walking in the door and taking the place by storm. His all-round display was absolutely brilliant. The Israeli kid was always going to have moments of inconsistency, but he has shone for the majority and has come good at a key time. That’s 13 goals already for Abada this season and there’s no sign of the tally being halted unless injury stalls his momentum.”

Credit has to go to Celtic’s scouting network on this one. Unlike some of the signings, such as Kyogo Furuhashi, that were clearly instigated by manager Ange Postecoglou, the Australian is unlikely to have known much about Abada before he arrived at Celtic Park.

£3m was quite a large fee for a 19-year-old, but he has already proven his value, and then some. His speed in possession, combined with his instincts in front of goal, are an excellent combination, and there is really no telling how far he can go, considering he is still very young. Hopefully, he can continue his great form throughout the rest of the campaign.
