Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid could now find it harder to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde this summer, according to reports in the Spanish media.

Sevilla sporting director Monchi was open to selling the Frenchman for around €70m (£60m), with the funds being needed to finance the La Liga club’s own signings.

However, Tottenham’s attempts to sign Bryan Gil has changed things. Spurs are willing to pay €25m (£21.6m) plus Erik Lamela for the 20-year-old, and if the deal is finalised, it would ease Sevilla’s financial situation.

While Kounde has been heavily linked with Chelsea in the Spanish press, though, it must be said that signing a new centre-back is not believed to be a priority for head coach Thomas Tuchel.

Getting a new number nine and another midfielder in through the door is more important, and a move for a defender may only happen nearer to the end of the transfer window.
