The sanctions introduced by the UK government against Chelsea’s owner Roman Abramovich mean that the Blues won’t be able to negotiate new contracts.

As things stand, there are five players in the senior squad whose current deals expire at the end of June, including captain Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

A loan deal for Saul Niguez will be terminated in the summer, despite the club having the option to sign him on a permanent basis, but it was likely that he would be sent back to Atletico Madrid anyway.

Charly Musonda is the fifth and final player, although his lack of game time means it was always expected that he would leave on a free transfer.

That is not the case with some of the youth players, though. Xavier Simons. George McEachran, Thierno Ballo, Sam McClelland, Josh Brooking and Dion Rankine will have to be released, unless the UK government allow Chelsea to be sold before July.
